Specialized Turbo error range-extender-error: Range extender battery error
The TCU has lost clean communication with the range extender battery or detected a fault inside it. The LED pattern is a steady red top bar with the sixth bar from the top blinking blue. Assist from the range extender is cut off; the main battery usually still drives the motor, but you lose the extended range the pack normally provides.

Likely causes
- Loose, dirty or corroded contact between the range extender and the bike's range extender port
- Firmware mismatch between the TCU and the range extender after an update
- Range extender pack left deeply discharged or stored flat for a long period
- Moisture or water ingress in the range extender connector or cable
- Damaged cable, bent pin or frayed wire between extender and main system
- Internal cell failure or BMS fault inside the range extender pack itself
How to fix Specialized Turbo error range-extender-error
- Open the Specialized app and read any user action prompt linked to this error before touching the bike.
- Power the system fully off, wait 30 seconds, then power on again and watch the TCU LED pattern.
- If the error returns, switch the bike off and remove the range extender, then reseat it firmly until it clicks.
- Inspect the extender cable and connector for bent pins, green corrosion, dirt or moisture; clean and dry if needed, never with high-pressure air.
- Charge the main pack and the range extender to full on the original Specialized charger, then ride a short loop and re-check.
- If the code is still present after a second restart, book the bike in at an Authorized Specialized Retailer for diagnostics with the TCU tool.
Warranty: A genuine component or firmware fault on the range extender or its harness inside the two-year warranty window is normally covered; water ingress, crash damage and packs left deeply discharged until cells are damaged are treated as owner fault.

Frequently asked
Can I reset the specialized error range-extender-error?
Often yes: check the Specialized app for a user action prompt, then do a full power-off and power-on of the bike with the range extender firmly reseated. If the red-and-blue LED pattern returns on the next ride, the TCU has stored a persistent fault that needs the dealer tool to clear.
Is it safe to keep riding with this error?
The bike usually still runs on the main battery, so short trips home or to the shop are acceptable, but the extender will not add range, so plan a shorter route than usual. Avoid heavy climbs or headwinds that would normally lean on the extender, since that load now falls on the main pack only.
What does it cost and is it under warranty?
Diagnosis at an Authorized Specialized Retailer is often €30–€60 and is frequently waived if the repair is warranty-approved. A confirmed extender or harness fault inside the two-year warranty period is normally replaced at no cost, while water damage, crash damage or a pack damaged by long-term deep discharge is treated as owner fault.
