Bosch error 0x521001: Bosch ABS authentication error
The drive unit cannot positively identify the ABS module fitted to the bike, so the system disables ABS function. Without ABS the front wheel can lock under hard braking, which is why Bosch flags the fault and locks out motor support. The rider sees an ABS warning and the bike will not deliver assist until the issue is cleared.

- Aftermarket or non-original ABS components fitted where Bosch ABS is expected
- ABS module firmware out of sync after a recent software update
- Damaged, bent or corroded ABS wiring loom or connector at the module
- New ABS sensor or wheel ring fitted without re-pairing to the drive unit
- Water ingress into the ABS module or its connectors
- Internal failure of the ABS control unit
How to fix Bosch error 0x521001
- Stop riding, dismount and switch the system off at the display.
- Remove the battery, wait 30 seconds, refit it and power the bike up again to see if the code clears.
- Check visually that the ABS unit, wheel speed sensor and cable are original Bosch parts and that connectors are fully seated.
- Save a diagnostic report through the Bosch eBike Flow app or a DiagnosticTool so the dealer has the full log.
- Run any pending software update for the drive unit, display and ABS module via the app.
- If the code returns after the update and battery reset, book the bike in with an authorised Bosch dealer.
- Dealer will verify ABS pairing with DiagnosticTool, inspect the wiring harness and replace the ABS module if it has an internal fault.

Typical cost: Expect diagnostic and software work around 40 to 90 EUR, and 250 to 600 EUR if a Bosch ABS module or wheel speed sensor has to be replaced including labour.
Frequently asked
Can I reset Bosch error 0x521001 myself?
You can try switching the bike off, disconnecting the battery for around 30 seconds, then reconnecting and powering up. If the ABS module is genuine and the wiring is sound, a software update through the eBike Flow app may clear it, but a persistent code needs dealer-level DiagnosticTool access.
Is it safe to keep riding with 0x521001 active?
No. Bosch has disabled ABS and motor support for a reason: if the ABS unit is not authenticated the system cannot guarantee anti-lock braking on the front wheel. Riding without functioning ABS on a heavy e-bike is a real crash risk, so the bike should be repaired before being ridden again.
How much will the repair cost and is it covered under warranty?
If the ABS module or harness has failed inside the warranty period and no non-original parts or water damage are involved, Bosch usually covers the replacement. Out of warranty, budget roughly 40 to 90 EUR for a diagnostic and software session and 250 to 600 EUR if a Bosch ABS module or wheel speed sensor needs to be fitted.
