Bosch error 0x510001: Internal sensor error stalling motor assist

Bosch eBike (DiagnosticTool / eBike Flow hex code)Dealer neededDo not keep riding

The Bosch drive unit has flagged a fault with one of its internal sensors during the starting phase of a ride. As a result the motor cuts assistance, or only delivers it after an unusual delay once the rider begins to pedal. The bike can still be pedalled home unpowered, but support cannot be trusted until the fault is cleared.

Likely causes

How to fix Bosch error 0x510001

  1. 1. Switch the system off, remove the battery, wait at least 60 seconds, then refit the battery and power the bike on again.
  2. 2. Open the eBike Flow app and install any pending firmware update, then restart the system a second time.
  3. 3. Inspect the motor housing and the drive unit connector port for visible water marks, cracks or pushed-out seals.
  4. 4. On a stand, confirm whether the code clears after the cold restart and whether motor support returns under load.
  5. 5. If the code reappears on the next ride or within a few kilometres, stop using assist and book the bike in at a Bosch-authorised dealer.
  6. 6. The dealer will run a DiagnosticTool readout, isolate the faulty sensor and replace the drive unit or sensor module if the internal fault is confirmed.
Go to a dealer if: A dealer is required as soon as the code returns after a clean restart, because reading the diagnostic log and opening the drive unit exceeds owner-level work.
Warranty: A genuine internal sensor fault on a drive unit still within the standard two-year Bosch warranty is normally treated as a manufacturer defect and covered, while water ingress, crash damage, tampering and wear are excluded.
Typical cost: Dealer diagnostic time typically runs 40-90 EUR, and a full drive unit replacement, if needed, usually lands between 500 and 900 EUR including labour.
Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.

Frequently asked

Can I reset Bosch error 0x510001?

Switch the bike off, remove the battery for about a minute, refit it and power on again. If the code reappears on the next ride, the fault is internal and needs dealer diagnosis, not another reset.

Is it safe to keep riding with this code?

No, motor support is unreliable and can cut out mid-ride, so pedal without assistance only to the nearest safe stop. Continued riding risks the fault worsening and can mask further sensor damage.

How much will the repair cost and is it covered?

Diagnostic time typically runs 40-90 EUR and a drive unit replacement, if required, usually totals 500-900 EUR. A genuine internal fault inside the two-year warranty window is normally covered, but water ingress, crash damage or tampering is not.
