VanMoof error 47: Motor driver fault

The power stage (driver) inside the motor controller reports a fault. This is the electronics that switch current into the motor windings. A driver fault usually means a failed MOSFET, a short in the motor phase wiring, or a damaged controller board. The bike will not assist.

Likely causes

Failed MOSFET or gate driver in the motor controller
Short between motor phase wires, often from the chafed cable in the fork
Water in the motor or controller
Damage after a deep discharge or a bad charger
Ageing controller after years of thermal cycling

How to fix VanMoof error 47

Hard reset with the power button (10 to 15 seconds), then power on
Check the motor cable at the fork and hub for visible damage; do not ride if it is cut or bare
Install any pending firmware update in case the flag is a false positive
Do not repeatedly power cycle a bike that throws 47 immediately; you can worsen a real short
Book an independent VanMoof-capable shop; the controller or motor needs bench testing and likely replacement

Go to a dealer if: Go to a shop as soon as a single hard reset does not clear the code; driver faults are hardware.
Warranty: Warranty from the original VanMoof B.V. died with the 2023 bankruptcy; the relaunched VanMoof (LAVOIE/McLaren Applied) only covers bikes sold by them after the relaunch, so most S3/X3 owners pay for repairs.
Typical cost: Controller or motor replacement is around EUR 300-600; a cable repair EUR 100-250 if the short was in the harness.
