Specialized Turbo error motor-not-found: Motor not detected by the system

Specialized Turbo (TCU, TCD-w, MasterMind T3/H3/TCD)Dealer neededDo not keep riding

The TCU cannot see the motor and has flagged the connection as lost. The bike cuts all electric assist and walk-assist is unavailable until communication is restored. In most cases this points to a loose connector, a damaged cable or a defective cable rather than a dead motor.

Typical costDealer diagnostics typically run 30-60 EUR, motor cable replacement around 60-150 EUR, and a motor replacement 500-900 EUR in part cost, so an out-of-warranty repair can exceed 1000 EUR once labour is added.

Likely causes

How to fix Specialized Turbo error motor-not-found

  1. Open the Specialized app and follow any user-action prompt shown for the motor-not-found code.
  2. Power the bike off, wait ten seconds, then power it back on and re-check the display.
  3. With the battery removed, inspect the motor connector at the frame exit for full seating and visible damage.
  4. Trace the motor cable along the frame for pinch points, chafing, abrasion or cuts.
  5. Unplug the motor connector, check the pins for moisture or corrosion, dry and reseat it firmly.
  6. If the code returns after a clean reseat and restart, stop riding and contact an Authorized Specialized Retailer for cable and motor diagnostics with Specialized tooling.
Go to a dealer if: A dealer is required when the code returns after a restart and a reseat of the motor connector, because proper cable and motor diagnostics need Specialized tooling and the harness is not user-serviceable beyond a visual check.
Warranty: A genuine component fault on the motor, cable or TCU inside the two-year warranty window is normally covered; crash damage, water ingress, contaminated connectors and worn harnesses are usually excluded and billed to the owner.
Typical cost: Dealer diagnostics typically run 30-60 EUR, motor cable replacement around 60-150 EUR, and a motor replacement 500-900 EUR in part cost, so an out-of-warranty repair can exceed 1000 EUR once labour is added.
Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.

Frequently asked

Can I reset the Specialized motor-not-found error?

Restart the bike and check the Specialized app for a user-action prompt, as that is the only user-side reset path. If the code returns after a clean restart and a reseat of the motor connector, the fault is not user-resettable and needs dealer diagnostics.

Is it safe to keep riding with motor-not-found?

No. Electric assist and walk-assist are both disabled, so the bike rides as a heavy unpowered bicycle. Continuing to ride on a shorted or pinched motor cable can also cause further damage to the harness or controller.

Will warranty cover the motor-not-found repair?

A genuine motor, cable or TCU fault inside the two-year warranty window is normally covered at no cost. Crash damage, water ingress and corroded or contaminated connectors are typically excluded and the repair is billed to the owner.
