Rad, Aventon, Lectric, Ride1Up reset: display, settings and controller
The big North American direct-to-consumer brands use Bafang- or KT-derived controllers with their own branded displays. Rad's LCD and newer Rad display, Aventon's colour display plus the Aventon app, Lectric's LCD with P-settings, Ride1Up's KT or Bafang displays. Resetting is a display-settings job plus a controller power cycle; the brands' support teams are the 'dealer'.
What you need
- Battery above 20%
- Photo of the current settings pages
- For Aventon: the Aventon app with your account and the bike registered
- Brand support contact and the bike's serial number
Step by step
Hold the power button (Rad: on the control pad; Aventon: on the display or pad; Lectric: on the LCD; Ride1Up: on the pad) until the display goes off. Wait 5 seconds. Hold to switch on.
If OK: Error gone.
If not: Same error: controller power cycle.
Switch off. Unlock and remove the battery (Rad: key, then slide; Aventon: key, lift out of the down tube; Lectric XP: key, slide out of the frame; Ride1Up: key, down tube). Wait 30 seconds, check the contacts. Refit until it clicks. Switch on.
If OK: Clean boot.
If not: Error stays: the brand's error page for the number; typical culprits are the speed sensor magnet, the brake cut-off switches, the throttle and the motor cable.
Older Rad LCD: hold UP and DOWN together 2 seconds for settings (units, brightness, wheel size, speed limit; some firmware has 'Restore default'). Newer Rad display (RadRunner 3, Radster etc.): Settings via the control pad, 'Reset to defaults' in the settings list. Re-enter wheel size and units.
If OK: Display stock, speed correct.
If not: No reset item: nothing more to reset. Rad support can guide you through a firmware update for the newer displays.
On the display: hold the power button briefly for the menu, 'Settings' › 'Restore defaults' (wording varies). In the Aventon app: Settings › Bike › 'Reset settings', and for pairing: forget the bike in the app and in the phone's Bluetooth, restart the phone, re-pair. The app also delivers firmware updates: install them with the battery above 50%.
If OK: Display and app stock; pairing works.
If not: App says the bike belongs to another account: previous owner must remove it or Aventon support releases it with the serial number and proof of purchase.
Bike on, hold UP and DOWN (or the two arrow buttons) 2 seconds to open the settings; items include units, wheel size, speed limit / class and on some firmware 'Restore default'. Lectric's P-settings are documented on their support site; re-enter the class setting after a reset.
If OK: Stock settings, class correct.
If not: Frozen or blank display: display cable or display; Lectric support sends replacement displays.
Ride1Up uses KT (LCD3/LCD8-type) or Bafang displays depending on model: hold UP and DOWN for the settings; on KT firmware use C10 = 'y' to restore defaults, on Bafang-type displays the 'Set defaults' item. Then re-enter wheel size, speed limit and PAS sensor type from your photos.
If OK: Stock settings.
If not: See the KT generic reset flow for safe default P/C values.
None of these brands have a diagnostic tool at local shops. Support asks for the error code, a video and the serial number, then ships a part (controller, display, sensor, battery) or refers you to a partner shop. Keep the error code and do not reset it away before you have the video.
If OK: Part shipped, problem solved.
If not: Out of warranty: a local e-bike shop can replace standard parts; controllers must match the brand's connectors.
What you now know for sure
- Transient: Gone after off/on or battery out. → Nothing to do.
- Display settings: Wrong speed, units or class fixed in the menu. → Photograph the settings.
- App / account (Aventon): Bike fine, app not connecting or bike in another account. → Forget and re-pair; support for account release.
- Hardware error: Code survives. → Brand error page, then support with video and serial number.
- Bad connector: Intermittent power loss cured by cleaning the battery contacts. → Clean and grease contacts; check the discharge port.

Frequently asked
How do I reset a Rad Power Bikes display?
Hold UP and DOWN together for about 2 seconds to open the settings; on newer Rad displays use 'Reset to defaults' in the settings list. Re-enter wheel size afterwards.
Does resetting my Aventon delete the odometer?
The display ODO can reset; the Aventon app keeps your ride history in your account. Total distance shown in the app survives a display reset.
Will a reset fix a Lectric error code?
No. Lectric error numbers point at a part (brake switch, throttle, motor hall sensor, speed sensor). The code returns after any reset until the part is fixed or replaced.
