Bosch error 0x531005: Internal communication error between drive components
The motor control unit has lost reliable internal communication with another module on the eBike system, such as the battery management, display, or a sensor. As a result the drive switches into a fault state and pedal assistance is switched off, leaving the bike rideable only as a normal unpowered bicycle until the fault is resolved.

| Severity | Dealer needed |
| Keep riding? | Do not keep riding |
| Typical cost | Dealer diagnostics typically cost EUR 30 to EUR 70, and a confirmed repair such as a wiring harness, display, sensor or drive unit replacement usually totals EUR 150 to EUR 700 depending on the part. |
Likely causes
- Loose, dirty or corroded connector between the drive unit, battery mount or display
- Moisture ingress into a connector or into the drive unit housing
- Damaged or chafed wiring harness from a crash, frame rub or chain strike
- Battery mount contacts worn or contaminated so the BMS cannot handshake cleanly
- Failed display, remote, sensor module or internal PCB on the drive unit itself
How to fix Bosch error 0x531005
- Switch the system fully off and remove the battery from the bike.
- Visually inspect the battery mount, display and drive unit connectors for dirt, green corrosion or pushed pins, then reseat each one firmly.
- Run the cable harness along the down tube and chainstay by hand, looking for pinched insulation, exposed copper or signs of impact.
- Refit the battery, power the system on and check whether 0x531005 still appears, also try a reset through the eBike Flow app.
- If the code clears but returns on the next ride, leave the battery out for at least five minutes before refitting and retesting.
- Book the bike in with an authorised Bosch eBike dealer so the fault can be read with the DiagnosticTool and the offending module identified.
- Authorise the dealer to repair or replace the faulty wiring, display, sensor or drive unit as the diagnostic result dictates.
Warranty: An internal communication fault on a genuine Bosch component inside the two-year warranty window is normally treated as a manufacturing defect and covered, while crash damage, water ingress and corroded connectors are usually excluded.
Typical cost: Dealer diagnostics typically cost EUR 30 to EUR 70, and a confirmed repair such as a wiring harness, display, sensor or drive unit replacement usually totals EUR 150 to EUR 700 depending on the part.
Frequently asked
Can I reset bosch error 0x531005?
A power cycle with the battery removed, or clearing the fault through the eBike Flow app, will wipe the message temporarily, but on an internal communication error it normally returns on the next ride until the loose connector or failing module is fixed. A genuine reset that holds requires the dealer-level DiagnosticTool.
Is it safe to keep riding with 0x531005?
No. The drive cuts motor support without warning, which on a hill or in traffic is a real hazard, so the bike should be ridden unpowered to a dealer or left parked until the fault is resolved.
Will Bosch cover this repair under warranty?
If the bike is within two years of purchase and there is no sign of crash impact, water ingress or corrosion, Bosch normally accepts an internal communication fault as a warranty repair on the affected component.
