Bafang error 07: Over voltage protection

Bafang BBS01/BBS02/BBSHD, M-series mid-drives and hub motors (UART & CAN displays)WarningRide with caution

The controller measured a battery voltage above its allowed maximum and shut down. Riders often see this right after a full charge, on long descents with regenerative-capable systems, or after fitting a higher-voltage battery. The motor stays off until the voltage falls back inside the window.

Likely causes

How to fix Bafang error 07

  1. Confirm the battery nominal voltage matches the controller and display settings
  2. Ride a short distance on low assist (or let the pack rest) to bring voltage down, then power cycle
  3. Measure the battery at the terminals: 54.6V max for 48V, 58.8V for 52V, 42V for 36V
  4. Check the charger's output voltage with a multimeter; replace it if it exceeds the pack rating
  5. If the voltage is correct and the code persists, the controller's sense circuit is faulty: shop
Go to a dealer if: Go to a shop if the voltage checks out on a multimeter but the code stays, or if you are unsure which battery/controller combination you have.
Warranty: If the bike or kit is under warranty (usually 1-2 years via the seller), contact them before opening anything, as opened motors and controllers can void the claim.
Typical cost: A mismatched charger is EUR/USD 30-80; a controller replacement EUR/USD 80-250.
Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.

Frequently asked

Can I reset error 07?

It clears when the voltage drops below the limit; power cycle after a few minutes of riding on low assist.

Can I keep riding with error 07?

Once it clears yes, but do not ignore a repeated 07: continuous over-voltage can kill the controller.

Warranty?

A controller that misreads voltage is a warranty case; using the wrong battery voltage is not.
